Obama e-mails bring suspension

A sergeant with the Iowa State Patrol has been suspended after an inappropriate message was sent from his work e-mail account.

The e-mail that went out last week contained disparaging remarks about 15 people shown wearing Barack Obama T-shirts, sweatshirts or stickers in police mug shots.

Information from the Iowa Department of Public Safety said it appears the e-mail was sent on Sgt. Rodney Hicok's state e-mail account and on state time — a violation of departmental policy.

The department's professional standards bureau is conducting a full investigation, and Hicok, a 23-year veteran with the patrol who works out of Fort Dodge, has been put on paid administrative leave pending the investigation's outcome.
