Union says Bates out as president following sting

Darren Bates no longer is acting as president of the Omaha firefighters union, according to the union.

In a news release, the union said its vice president, Frank Corcoran, "has assumed all presidential duties of the union pending future developments."

Bates was one of six men ticketed in Council Bluffs, Iowa, this week for allegedly soliciting prostitution during a police sting.

Also ticketed was a Nebraska school board president, who has since resigned.

The firefighters union statement did not give Bates' current status in the organization -- whether he has been fired, suspended, resigned or is taking a leave of absence from the union.
