What would you do with $18,000? Goldman Sachs decided to pay themselves huge bonuses, equal to paying $18,000 to every Burger King employee in the country. A company that took tax payer money to pay themselves bonuses. And employees of their subsidiary, Burger King, don't make enough at full time to even make it to the poverty level. Sweet, huh?

1. I'd get a lawyer and sue Goldman Sachs.

1. Pay all my credit card debt.
2. Split the remaining into my checking account and savings.

Owners lost them when they fell behind in taxes.

18K could get you a house, not just a downpayment.

9. 18000 isn't enough for 20% down on a cheap fix it up 650 ft condo in NY
If you want a cheap fix it up 1BR condo around NYC and surrounding counties you better come up with over 300,000 (20% down is only 60,000 you need to have saved up)

10. Yeah, sorry about that
The Bay Area, LA and NYC have off the wall housing prices.

We couldn't handle the prices in the S.F. Bay area any more. If we had come up here ten years ago, we'd own our own home now - and even with decline in prices, the houses that are not bank repo's -- those are still 225K.

11. 18,000 wouldn't be a sufficient down payment in my market
not even for a fixer-upper.

4. Become debt free!
That would pay off all of my debts and leave me debt free, might even have a grand left to splurge on something for the family!

5. 1) Get current on bills. 2) Pay off debts. 3) Buy myself a newer used car.
And yes, I could definitely do all that with $18k
