With Chrysler filing for bankruptcy, and General Motors teetering on that same financial edge, the future of two of Michigan's biggest money-makers is looking more grim than ever.
It's a concern not only for our state, but for the country as well.
"We haven't lost sight of that. That's why you see me here today," says Hilda Solis, U.S. Secretary of Labor.
Solis was in Lansing Monday, along with Governor Jennifer Granholm, to talk about federal funding for green jobs-- jobs she says are good fits for those who may be falling victim to the declining auto industry.
"Workers here are in need of assistance," she says.
That assistance might simply be keeping the job they have. People at GM want to know what's being done to make sure the existing jobs don't keep disappearing, so we posed that question during the press conference.
