The Ford Motor Co. introduced the continuous moving assembly line which could produce a complete car every two-and-a-half minutes - 1913

Kellogg cereal adopts 6-hour day - 1930

December 1, 1930 - Mary Harris "Mother" Jones died at the age of 100. The veteran of marches with coal miners and child laborers, she was the conscience of the nation.

Ten thousand pickets jam the sidewalk in front a Boston Store in Milwaukee in support of retail workers striking for union recognition. The workers returned in mid-January with a small pay raise but no recognition - 1934

African American Rosa Parks refuses to go to the back of a Montgomery, Ala. bus, fueling the growing civil rights movement's campaign to win desegregation and end the deep South's "Jim Crow" laws - 1955

December 1, 1955 - Rosa Parks, a 43-year-old African-American seamstress, boarded a crowded bus in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, for the ride home from her job in a department store. There was standing room only in the "Negro" section in the rear, but the weary Parks sat down in front and refused to give up her seat to a white man. The action caused her arrest, triggered a year-long boycott of the city bus system and led to legal actions which ended racial segregation on municipal buses throughout the southern United States
