Canada's federal government is attempting to break a strike by legally ordering 1700 striking locomotive engineers back to work. The move came less than three days after the engineers walked off their jobs at Canadian National Railway. The engineers are represented by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference. The strike was triggered by management attempting to force contract and wage changes on the engineers. The union had been attempting to reach an agreement with the railway for 14 months. The Conservative Party government introduced legislation in the Canadian House to force the strikers back to work and its also forcing the House to stay in session until the issue is settled.
