AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler says the labor federation still has leverage as it fights to improve the final version of health care reform.
: “Absolutely we feel we have leverage. And it’s certainly a top priority for our membership to make sure that we pay for healthcare reform fairly, not on the backs of middle class workers. So we think the House product is the optimal bill. And we’re gonna continue to fight to make sure that the Senate bill ends up looking more like the House bill. It contains the public option, it’s got the employer mandate so it levels that playing field, and certainly pays for it in a more fair manner.”
