Lee’s Summit Medical Center was wrong to withdraw recognition of its nurses’ union before the results of a decertification vote were certified, according to a finding by the regional office of the National Labor Relations Board.
NLRB Regional Director Daniel Hubbel said Wednesday that he hopes the hospital and the union can settle the unfair labor practices matter without going before an administrative law judge.
However, HCA Midwest Health System is looking for the dispute to be heard by an administrative law judge, spokeswoman Susan Kaufmann said. Lee’s Summit Medical Center is part of HCA Midwest.
Hubbel said his office communicated its finding to the parties late last week.
The regional office found no merit to another unfair labor practices charge filed by the union, Hubbel said. The union alleged that the hospital had disciplined three nurses because of their union activities.
