Today in Labor History Jan 23 Ratification of the 24th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

January 23, 1964 - Ratification of the 24th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibited the collection of poll taxes -- a widely used technique to suppress voter participation by African-Americans. "There can be no one too poor to vote," President Lyndon Johnson said.
