A Nebraska City man died early Saturday after the hydraulic lift he was operating at a meat processing plant came crashing down.
Timothy L. Wilson, 49, was taken to St. Mary's Community Hospital in Nebraska City, where he was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m.
The accident occurred about 4 a.m. at the Excel Specialty Products plant, said David Partsch, Otoe County attorney. The lift was extended about 20 feet in the air while Wilson replaced some shelving units, making the lift top-heavy and later causing it to topple over, Partsch said.
A preliminary investigation determined that Wilson suffered internal injuries in the fall, Partsch said. An autopsy will be performed.
The Excel plant, 2601 Industrial Road, is a subsidiary of Cargill Inc. and handles preparation of precooked beef.
Partsch said officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were notified of the incident.
