A city worker was injured and the Bobcat skid loader he was handling was badly damaged when it was struck by a sport utility vehicle about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in west Omaha.
The worker was part of a crew preparing potholes for patching on 168th Street near Boyle Street.
“We had a series of bad chuckholes we were prepping for hot asphalt we were going to place (in) the daylight hours,” said Fred Thole, Omaha street superintendent.
“From what I understand, someone was coming down the street at a high rate of speed and didn't see the operation until the last minute.”
The vehicle plowed into the Bobcat. The driver of the SUV did not appear to be severely injured.
The operator of the Bobcat was, “bruised and banged and lucky, in my opinion,” Thole said.
The worker was treated at a hospital and released. He tried to return to work but was sent home for the day.
The SUV driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. — Andrew J. Nelson
