August 6, 1917 - Headlines in the Minneapolis Journal reported "Draft opposition fast spreading in state." That summer, Socialist antiwar meetings in Minnesota drew huge crowds of up to 20,000 workers and farmers. Many protested what they called "a businessman's war." The Industrial Workers of the World were a leader in the effort against World War I.

1. The workers movement must be a "classist" movement.

The labor movement committed suicide in the late 1940s - it sealed it doom for generations. The only green shoots today are those centered on those previously shunned - undocumented and documented non-citizens workers who are severely exploited. The class instinct is strong in these workers. Otherwise, the "working class" in this country has largely become a junior partner to the bosses, enjoying the spoils of exploitation of developing country workers. My opinion...
