August 6, 1917 - Headlines in the Minneapolis Journal reported "Draft opposition fast spreading in state." That summer, Socialist antiwar meetings in Minnesota drew huge crowds of up to 20,000 workers and farmers. Many protested what they called "a businessman's war." The Industrial Workers of the World were a leader in the effort against World War I.
