Omaha native Larry Jackson was a natural with people.

“He made friends as easily with CEOs as he did with a cabdriver in London. He was very special that way,” said his son Joe Jackson.

Those skills served him well in his work as a labor leader.

Lawrence “Larry” R. Jackson died Saturday at Bergan Mercy Medical Center, said the younger Jackson, of Hillsborough, Calif. He was 69 and had lung and kidney problems, his son said.

Larry Jackson was in Creighton Prep’s 1959 class, the first to graduate from the school’s then-new facility on Western Avenue. After graduation, he began work as a laborer at Kellogg Co. in Omaha.

“He became interested in what his passion was, representing Kellogg’s workers in the American Federation of Grain Millers union,” his son said.
