The National Labor Relations Board believes the Regis Hair Salon chain violated federal labor laws over potential anti-union activities. Jesse Russell reports.
The company’s CEO, Paul Finkelstein, produced a DVD for employs in which he threatened the closure of salons if employees voted in favor of union representation and went as far as telling workers they would be blacklisted in the salon industry. Posters were placed at salons encouraging employees to call a hotline if co-workers observed union activities. And the company even asked employees to sign pledges to not sign union cards. Regis is has 12,700 salons around the world making it the largest. Store fronts include Cost Cutters, MasterCuts and a number of beauty schools.
