Published Tuesday November 9, 2010

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is canceling its concerts through Nov. 28 because of a continuing strike by its musicians.

Canceled concerts include performances of Rachmaninoff and Dvorak set for Thursday through Sunday and of Irving Berlin for Nov. 18-21. The orchestra says guest artists and conductors will be rescheduled for future seasons.

Informal discussions took place Friday between members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and management following the monthlong walkout. Musicians report no progress toward ending the strike that began Oct. 4.

Management of the financially struggling orchestra has implemented a 33 percent base pay cut in the first year of the new contract.

Musicians have offered a 22 percent reduction.
