Unconscionable. That’s the AFL-CIO reaction to the tax cut compromise deal the Obama administration has cut with Republicans. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says the tax cut deal that extends tax cuts for the wealthy rewards Republican obstructionism and throws away precious resources badly needed for investments in jobs. Trumka says more estate tax breaks for the rich in this deal gives yet another bonus to the super-rich and Republicans had the gall to use the hardships of unemployed workers as leverage to benefit the rich. The AFL-CIO says the benefits for jobless workers and the middle class included in this tax cut deal come at too high a price. In a press conference Tuesday President Obama defended his tax cut compromise that extends Bush tax cuts to the rich for two more year. He said standing and fighting over tax cuts to the rich would have hurt millions of jobless and middle class workers.
