OFFICE MANAGER
STATUS: Full-time, Permanent
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Director
MSEA is an independent public sector union of 6,000 classified school employees from 60 school districts across Minnesota, from Warroad to Worthington, from East Grand Forks to LaCrescent. MSEA is a democratic, member-driven organization supported by an experienced professional staff in its mission to provide the highest level of representation and service in the State of Minnesota.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Office Manager oversees operation of organizations state office and manages/coordinates organizations statewide events and projects.
Primary
Design/produce quarterly newspaper and other member communications
Event planning (annual meeting, statewide workshops, etc.)
Maintain MSEA documents and materials (in multiple platforms) and archives
Manage member benefits program and supplies/materials
Oversee IT systems and equipment and serve as liaison to IT service providers, consultants, and vendors
Format/manage member databases and serve as liaison to database consultants
Serve as liaison to building management and for office equipment vendor contracts/leases
Secondary
Board of Directors support
Staff liaison to Program Committee
Back-up for Administrative Assistant
React to change productively, maintain flexibility as organizational needs arise and change, and handle other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Effective communication and public relations skills, both written and oral
Proficiency in desktop publishing, database programs (FileMaker Pro) and basic word processing and spreadsheet programs (Mac systems)
Ability to organize and prioritize work schedule and duties
Ability to read and write in English
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of two years experience in an office setting
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Some post-secondary education in a relevant field
Some experience in a membership-based organization
EXPECTATIONS
The Office Manager must be self-directed and effectively manage not only a large variety of tasks but also competing demands from individuals (staff, members, vendors, consultants). The position is accountable to the Executive Director and ultimately the members of MSEA.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Office Manager position is in the APSCE bargaining unit. Hourly wage of $19.00 plus all negotiated contract benefits.

Job Description: The Minnesota Association of Professional Employees has an immediate opening for the post of Business Manager. The position is full-time. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Business Manager will be responsible for administering operations and managing human resources at the Association. This is a general manager position, so the ideal candidate should possess a broad skills set covering, among other areas, human resources, fiscal oversight, and accounting.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Monitoring and oversight of budget expenditures
Directing procurement
Coordinating IT solutions
Carrying out performance reviews
Training and development of staff
Enforcing policies and procedures
Ensuring legal compliance with employment legislation
Overseeing health and safety
Facilitating communication
Promoting harmonious employee relations
Coordinating recruitment and selection
Carrying out related management duties as assigned
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the post of Business Manager should:
Possess at least a Bachelors degree in business, management, accounting, or human resources and 4+ years of relevant work experience or possess 8+ years of relevant work experience.
Have documented successes (preferably in a unionized workplace) in the areas of leadership, human resources, and administration.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles and practice of management, human resources, industrial relations, fiscal oversight, accounting, and procurement.
Demonstrate a basic knowledge of information technology.
Have extensive insight into administrative and office procedures.
Understand how trade unions operate.
Possess superior problem-solving skills.
Be able to work independently and in a team.
Communicate effectively.
Be able to prioritize in a multi-tasking environment.
