GM Offers Buyouts To Reduce Its Skilled Workforce

GM is making moves to further reduce its workforce of skilled trade workers. The company is offering $60,000 to workers who are willing to leave their job or retire by March of 2011. The offer is being made to 14 of GMís U.S. plants. The move comes before the United Auto Workers and the company begins contract talks in 2011.

1. I thought these buyouts were a thing of the past - the large corporation I work for has

not offered any for years electing instead to be selective rather than giving workers the option.

2. Actually, more widespread than ever.

And we bailed GM out!!!!
Rather, the government cabal gave OUR money to GM, now GM is getting rid of union protected wages and they WILL
hire new people at lower wages with less benefits.

Georgia Pacific bought out a pulp mill in our area, bought out the current workers with payoffs and earlier retirement
packages, hired fewer new workers, then a year later closed the plant anyhow.

I think Bernie Sanders addressed that in his filibuster speech...I think.

3. We wouldn't want employees with any actual skills

now would we. Bad for the bottom line. Maybe GM can reinvent itself as a derivative exchange medium.
