IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Nurses and other health care workers at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics are in line for 3 percent raises for each of the next two years under a union contract they approved last week.
Service Employees International Union Local 199 President Cathy Glasson said its roughly 3,000 members will receive 3 percent increases July 1 and July 1, 2012. She said members will pay higher health care premiums, but the university agreed not to cut the scope of their benefits during the contract.
The union represents nurses, dietitians, social workers and others who provide care at the hospital.
Glasson said the agreement was the result of tough bargaining and was a victory for workers, the hospital and patients. She said the vote to accept it last week was nearly unanimous.
