Strategic Communications/Special Projects Director
Teamsters Local 320, a public employee local union in the state of Minnesota, is seeking a strategic communications/special projects director to help design and implement communications strategies and special projects. This individual will develop and plan messaging for campaigns for both internal and external audiences.
Aptitude and Commitment:
Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to the labor movement and progressive causes, experience working in labor or another advocacy organization; and experience working with diverse populations. Candidates must have strong verbal and written communications skills and should understand the news and political environment.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or English preferred.
• A minimum of two years experience with the labor movement or other advocacy organizations or political action campaigns preferred.
• Two years experience in social media outreach, website management and campaigns.
Responsibilities may include:
• Create and manage networking strategies, including Facebook and Twitter, as well as mobile technology actions.
• Manage the website.
• Research, write, edit, test and track email actions.
• Participate in and recruit members to participate in legislative and electoral campaign activities, including lobbying, phone banking, letter-writing, door-to-door canvassing, and other activities.
• Write, edit, and design flyers, brochures, newsletters, press releases and other organizational materials.
• Work collaboratively with other staff promoting the activities and objectives of the union.
Qualifications:
• Must thrive in an environment with tight deadlines, high pressure and irregular hours.
• Extensive knowledge of organizing and political campaign communications strategies preferred.
• Excellent writing, editing, communication, and verbal skills.
• Knowledge of electronic and print media systems.
• Ability to work long and irregular hours including weekends.
• Valid driver's license.

Communications and Web Specialist

Position Description:
The Communications & Web Specialist is a new position that will work with organizational leaders to plan, develop, and execute marketing activities for three entities: International Union of Operating Engineers—Local 49, Local 49 Health and Welfare, and Local 49 Apprenticeship and Training Program.
This role will oversee all online activities, including maintaining the organization’s web sites and social media presence. The Communications & Web Specialist will attend Union events, gather information and photography, and develop web site content.
Primary Duties:
The Communications & Web Specialist will be responsible for the following:
• Maintain web site technical operations, including all content, images, forms, navigation, links, and search engine visibility.
• Plan site design and expansion to support organizational goals.
• Update site content.
• Monitor web performance and results; recommend changes as needed.
• Attend local and regional Union functions; take event photographs and gather information for web site stories.
• Assist with other communications needs as assigned.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
• Minimum three years’ experience designing and maintaining web sites.
• Experience with web design software such as Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Expressions, or similar packages.
• Ability to create effective online forms.
• Familiarity with social media tools and their business usages, such as Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook.
• Strong photography skills and experience optimizing photos and videos for the web.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Excellent time management and attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel locally within the Twin Cities and regionally to our Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota locations.

Job Description: The Minnesota Association of Professional Employees has an immediate opening for the post of Director of Member Representation and Services. The position is full-time. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Member Representation and Services will be responsible for the effective management and oversight of statewide member representation and service delivery at the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees. S/he is ultimately charged with ensuring that MAPE is successful in promoting and protecting the interests of its membership. The Director of Member Representation and Services is responsible for supervising and managing the day-to-day activities of staff under his or her direction.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assessing workload allocation and assigning tasks.
• Evaluating the performance of supervised staff.
• Coordinating the training and development of supervised staff.
• Motivating and rewarding supervised staff.
• Facilitating communication and cooperation between employees and management.
• Enforcing MAPE policies and procedures.
• Promoting harmonious employee relations through effective leadership.
• Collaborating with the Business Manager on human resource matters.
• Carrying out other responsibilities such as serving as Acting Executive Director during the latter’s absence.
• Functioning as a member of the management negotiations team in OPEIU negotiations.
• Supporting and advising staff and members at statewide and local negotiations.
• Working with the organizer to increase full membership rates year-on-year.
• Acting as a senior advisor to business agents in contract administration and member advocacy.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the post of Director of Member Representation and Services should:
• Possess a Bachelor’s degree in any field and four years of relevant work experience or have 8+ years of relevant work experience in a unionized environment.
• Have documented successes in the areas of member representation and services and staff supervision.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of labor relations, labor and contract law, Minnesota’s Public Employee Labor Relations Act, and the operations of Minnesota state agencies.
• Have a thorough understanding of the principles and practice of management and human resources.
• Possess superior problem-solving and negotiation skills.
• Be able to work independently and in a team.
• Communicate effectively.
• Be able to prioritize in a multi-tasking environment.
