About 125 workers at GM’s Lake Orion plant took a strike vote Wednesday. Results are expected as soon as today after members have been notified of the results. The workers reportedly make less than $10 an hour working for a company called LINC Logistics doing parts logistics for GM inside the plant. The workers signed union cards to join UAW Local 5960 but have yet to reach a contract agreement. UAW Local 5960 President Pat Sweeney says the union is fighting for a living wage for the workers. The roughly $20,000 these workers earn annually is below the federal poverty line for a family of four. GM is launching the Chevy Sonic this summer at the plant – the only subcompact to be made in the U.S.
