AFSCME MN Council 5 is currently seeking applicants for the position of Receptionist Support Specialist. A brief description and qualifications for the position are shown below.
This Receptionist position is full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM and is based out of the Duluth Office.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
This position will provide receptionist and secretarial/clerical support for AFSCME MN Council 5.
The person in this position will be greeting and directing visitors to the office.
The person in this position will provide regular maintenance of a computerized database containing names, addresses, and telephone numbers of Council 5 local union officers and members. This will include on-going address changes and maintaining other membership data.
This person will be responsible for daily mail distribution, completing or assisting with various outgoing mailings, and performing other general administrative support.
Desired Qualifications:
The successful applicant must be able to interact with visitors and staff in a friendly and positive manner, and maintain that demeanor under highly charged, busy, or trying circumstances.
The applicant should be knowledgeable of standard office procedures and practices, and must be very detail oriented. They should be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Access knowledge is also desired. The candidate must be computer literate to maintain an industry specific database program.
The successful applicant will need to be able to effectively balance conflicting priorities in order to meet those deadlines deemed most critical.

Political Organizer for the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation
The Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, is seeking applicants for a full-time position as political organizer on the RLFs professional staff. This position is designed to work in support of the Saint Paul RLFs political, legislative and issue-based campaigns in the East Metro area.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and implementing campaigns in support of labor-endorsed candidates for elected office, issues of importance to the labor community and the Saint Paul RLFs legislative priorities.
Facilitating meetings for campaign stakeholders, including affiliate unions, local labor councils and community partners.
Recruiting and mobilizing volunteers. Developing relationships with affiliate unions for the purpose of recruiting rank-and-file members as volunteers, and equipping them with the skills to become effective labor activists.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years of experience working on campaigns, and/or three years of experience working in the labor movement.
Familiarity with campaign plans, and ability to write and execute them.
Experience facilitating meetings, developing and giving trainings to activists, and building community groups.
HOURS & SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week.

Community Services Liaison & Organizer for the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation
The Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, is seeking a self-motivated labor and community activist interested in joining the RLFs professional staff as an AFL-CIO Community Services liaison and community organizer. This is a full-time position, designed to advance the goals and objectives of the Greater Twin Cities United Way and the Saint Paul RLF in the East Metro area.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Cultivating partnerships between AFL-CIO unions and the United Way.
Assisting active and retired workers and their families in need of human services through the AFL-CIO Community Services Program.
Supporting the Greater Twin Cities United Way campaign through fundraising, grant-writing and volunteer recruitment.
Building labors relationships with community organizations in the East Metro area.
Working in support of the Saint Paul RLFs program and the Minnesota Wants to Work coalition.
QUALIFICATIONS
General knowledge of organized labor, with a basic understanding of the local labor movement and its work in the greater community.
Experience successfully organizing and mobilizing volunteers.
Communication skills.
HOURS & SCHEDULE
This full-time position will represent an 80-20 split in work time between the AFL-CIO Community Services program and the Saint Paul RLF.
