Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 11:16 AM by sam11111
Wow !

By bargaining collectively, union members are able to negotiate higher wages. Union members earn almost 28 percent more than nonunion members.

The union wage benefit is greatest for people of color and women.

Latino union workers earn almost 51 percent more than their nonunion counterparts.

Union women earn almost 34 percent more than nonunion women.

For African Americans, the union advantage is 31 percent.

The union advantage for white male workers is almost 21 percent.

2. Now hear this:
"Until we get real wage levels down much closer to the Brazils and Koreas, we cannot pass along productivity gains to workers wages and still be competitive" --- (Stanley J. Mihelick, EVP Goodyear Inc. NYT, June 4, 1997)

5. You're spot on, Sam!
It's the sort of pretzel logic that "Captains of Industry" routinely palm off as "hard-headed wisdom". Sadly, some swallow it whole without even bothering to analyze it!

3. True.
I am living it right now, after a lifetime suffering low wages and no benefits, I belong to a union.

I am already earning more as well as having benefits for the first time.

Every working person deserves this.

6. I'm a retired Union electrician, IBEW.
I believe each and everyone of you. Now, convince the poor worker that's out there working for less. I spent the last 20+ years in Wiscosin. I made excellent wages and benefits. As much as I've tried, you can hardly convince un-organized electricians that they will make more in the union. I've had them tell me that the reason their wages are low is because of unions. Go figure. They are usually very ignorant of the facts in the market place and very brainwashed by either employers or their prejudices. I've tried convincing guys who worked for ABC contactors. One told me, "I'd die before I'd work for a union". Well, I told him, ABC, American Builders and Constructors is a UNION for open shop contractors to keep your wages down. He looked dumbfounded. I aske when he was planing to kill himself.

Anyway, get the word out to everyone. Many listen to that conservanazi crap on the AM dial and Fox Noise and believe every word of it. Help them to organize.

The last argument I had with a redneck here about unions went like this: unions are outdated and they only screw you out of money. Well, I told the guy, my wage package was $50 and hour and I'm retired at 62, with insurance (I pay for it) and I make about 2/3s of what I made working. Now, you try to convince me and my other union members how bad it is.

Carry the message.
