Labor Day Snapshot: No Reason to Celebrate for Unemployed
In honor of Labor Day weekend, here's a quick roundup of where labor stands in the United States. The picture isn't a pretty one. Union membership is down, while unemployment and corporate profits are both up - along with the number of people who don't have health insurance. The earnings gap between the uber-rich and the poor continues to widen, with the middle class being pulled downward in the vortex of the Great Recession and its aftermath. Many economists are predicting a double-dip, and they ain't talkin' about ice cream cones.
