Grocery Union issues 72-hour warning that strike is near
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego grocery workers for Ralphs, Vons and Albertsons stores could go on strike as early as Sunday evening.

The union that represents Southern California grocery workers on

Thursday gave the grocery chains a notice of its intention to cancel the current contract extension in 72 hours, possibly paving the way for a strike.

According to the union, grocery workers will begin final strike preparations after the deadline expires, massing at local union headquarters to assemble signs, stockpiling food for strikers and their families, and continuing picket training.

Personal note, did stock up, and told workers we will not cross picket line.

7. Ut says Ralph is only hiring people to help with packing up and storing food.
They claim they will shut down all Ralphs stores indefinitely and now Albertson's says it will close many stores too.

6. Ralphs & Albertsons says they wll shut down their stores if workers strike,
Rather than hiring scabs (other than to pack away food). Seems suicidal of the stores; shutting down would make everyone shop elsewhere, even those who don't care about workers. Many will discover the joys of farmer's markets, Costco, Trader Joe etc. and never come back, just as many stores lost customers permanently during the last round of strikes.

Vons has not announced any plans to close....so they may pull customers from their competitors if they remain open.

Well I've stocked up on anything I can't find elsewhere and will definitely not be shopping at any of these union-busting outfits.
