Operators of a rock quarry near Fort Calhoun have been fined by OSHA for a safety violation after the June death of an employee who was helping to battle Missouri River floodwaters.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration ordered Martin Marietta Materials Inc. to pay a $7,000 fine after an investigation into the June 9 death of James McGauley, 58, of Blair.

A spokesman at the Martin Marietta office in Des Moines said the company has no comment.
