National Nurses United is operating several medical fist aid stations for protesters in occupy protest cities. Jill Furillo is an RN with National Nurses United. She says the nurses physically defended their medical station in New York City and are determined to support the occupy movement as it exercises constitutional rights of freedom of assembly and free speech.
: “At midnight the police called out the SWAT team to come to remove the medical tent. And everyone locked arms and said that we would not move. And Jesse Jackson just happened to be walking by – literally walking by at that moment. And so he joined arms with our folks, with the nurses and with the medics and together we had about a hundred people who defended the tent. And so the police did back down and decide not to remove the tent at that time.
“We’re there because we support the occupiers. We do believe that they have every constitutional right to be there. We also support what they’re doing. We believe that Wall Street greed is what has led to this economic crisis, and we have seen how our patients are suffering as a result from stress-related diseases directly related to the economic crisis.
"We are there to help the occupiers continue the occupation and to make sure that no one gets ill as a result.”
