Janitors Strike Malls in Three States to Defend Civil Rights Under Attack by Unscrupulous Contractors

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Janitors in Indianapolis,
Denver, and New York have authorized an unfair labor practices strike to
defend their civil rights from attack by unscrupulous contractors employed
by $42 billion property giant Simon Property Group to clean their malls.
Janitors could go on strike as early as this Friday.
Over the last three weeks, janitors who work for Control, Varsity and
Varsity's subcontractors have filed charges with the federal government in
response to an illegal campaign of harassment and intimidation against them
for speaking out for fair treatment on the job. In Indianapolis, janitors
were warned by their contractor against talking about their working
conditions, and one worker was allegedly threatened directly by her
supervisor for speaking out. The National Labor Relations Board is
currently investigating these and other charges.

the weekend:
