Santiago de Compostela Pilgrimage
Has anyone done this or known anyone who has? I've been interested in doing this walk for about 10 years now & would like to do it sometime in the next 5 years. :) I've done some looking about online, but I would feel more comfortable in a group as opposed to walking on my own (even though I know enough Spanish to get food, shelter, assistance).

2. LOL
Yes, google is your friend. It's a pilgrimage route through Spain (actually, there are several it turns out), used since the Middle Ages. Although many Catholics & Christians walk the routes for specific religious reasons, others are welcome to join in. The history buff in me wants to do it because (a) excellent exercise--walking for 30 days straight I'm bound to lose some weight and (b) my god, the HISTORY!

I first read about this approximately 10 years ago & have been wanting to try it ever since. I'd like to walk the Camino Frances route, which you can pick up either in France at St. Jean de Pied or in Roncevalles in Spain.

Here's a site I found last night when I did some searching:

6. This does sound intriguing, WDG, but walking for 30 days?
I seriously doubt I'd make it unless I got into some kind of routine prior to going.
30 DAYS? Yes, I'm sure lots of weight could be lost, but just think of the clothes you'd
have to cart with you to fit into as the lbs melt off!

7. they're called "belts"
:)

I've been working on losing weight for the past 2 years, have lost 50 lbs so far. Right now, I'm going to the gym almost every day for a spinning class, working on my legs. Obviously, I'd have to add some sort of walking program (incline, stairs) as I get closer to actually going. :)

3. I knew someone who did the pilgrimage
with a tour lead by a priest. The guy and his wife loved it. I thought about going at one time, but have been lead astray--to other areas of the world on the limited vacation times I've had.

4. I've been wanting to do this too...
I think I might have saved an old travel magazine with info on doing this on your own or with a group...I'll look for it and let you know.
