Montreal questions....

Will be in Montreal beginning of October. I am a little flexible about number of days I can stay and would like some advice on it - does 2 or 3 days sound about right?

Any "must sees"?

I am trying to decide between hotels in Old Montreal, any suggestions?

I am traveling with my 82 yr old grandmom, so I want to treat her to a really nice experience, within walking distance of things to do, see, places to eat.

1. We went in October 2005

Stayed in a B&B just off of St. Denis. Great place and good value, but lots of stairs http://www.montrealbedandbreakfast.ca/ Really nice place and only a short walk from the Metro.
You have to visit Jean Talon Market - great vegetable market, cheeses, and a fabulous spice shop.
We only went up for a weekend to see a concert by Michel Sardou - the French pop singer.

3. You can do a lot in three days.

I enjoyed the cathedral Notre Dame immensely. Old Montreal was nice. Take a trip to the vantage point on Mont-Royale and see the city, and proceed around to the other side for a look at the St Joseph bigger than all hell church. I'm not sure about what to do about the walking.

I also took a few hours drive up to the mountains, but you might be a little late in the year for that.

6. Great tips! I wondered about the St. Joseph's church, read about it,

hadn't seen a pic yet, but it sounded like a "must see". Grand-mere & I definitely want to see all the sights, incl the beautiful architecture, after which we must stuff ourselves with crepes.

Turns out, we will be staying 2 nights, 2 full days.

7. Here's something else.

The area between UQAM and old montreal is pretty run down. It's like an urban scene in a seventies cop show. Prostitution and god knows what else on the streets. Don't take your gammy near there.

from Schwartz's.

They are to die for!
