Three days till we leave for Paris!!!!

Flying out Thursday night and have 6 nights there.

Just couldn't wait until December for out annual French fix.

Paris is wonderful. What's on your look-see list? Hope you have your walking shoes broken in. I save my best "travel feet" in the "do not touch until next trip" box. Where else have you been? And how about you, other readers of this post? Lets get some additional activity posted. It is a big wide world out there.

3. Now you have me craving a croque monsieur so badly

They make great ones at this little cafe by Notre Dame. All I can think about when I think about going to Paris is good food!!

4. October is beautiful in Paris....

My partner and I spent nearly a month there two Octobers ago. The chestnut trees in the Luxembourg Gardens were the color of 24k gold, I swear to the gods.

If you happen to check this out before you hop on that plane on Thursday, here's a dining recommendation for you if you're in search of a quite, intimate, romantic place to spend two or three hours dining on some fantastic food. We return at least once when visiting each year.
It's a little restaurant called Chez Maitre Paul, located at 12 rue Monsieur le Prince in the 6th. It's just up the hill from the Carrefour Odeon, off the Odeon metro stop on the number 4 line.

Wherever you end up dining, you're hard pressed to go wrong in Paris.

5. We love the Luxembourg

Especially the boating pond.

We're staying in the 6th this time - we're usually in the 3rd on rue St. Paul - as Mrs GoS wanted a nicer apartment this time.

We'll look for Chez Maitre Paul, if we can get past Le Comptoir at Carrefour d'Odeon.

6. Back from Paris

It was fabulous. And I'm writing a trip report.

Needless to say the food was incredible.
And our last morning was spent eating croissants and pain au chocolat in the Jardin du Luxembourg and watching the sun rise.

7. Look forward to reading your report...

we're going to be there from Dec 14th for a month - renting in the 4th as usual. Will our first year spending christmas and new year in Paris. I cannot wait!

10. Where in the 4th?

We've spent the last 3 New Years in the Marais in rue St. Paul. Great little apartment, but the Ikea bed is a killer. We've rented a bigger place with a better bed and an Internet connection this year.

Stay away from the Champs Elysee on New Years - It's a mob scene. Far better to get a bottle of Champagne, grab the digital camera and head for one of the bridges on the Seine. You'll be able to see some of the fireworks, exchange Bonne Annee with the Parisians and the tourists and kiss at midnight.

Maybe we'll see you there. We're down to Montpellier on the 26th, and back in Paris on the 31st. Staying in the 7th.

I've been writing up the trip report, but it's very long. And I haven't yet been able to figure out how to post photos.

11. This time we are staying

at #4 Rue du Platre - it's a tiny street near the Beaubourg. Here's the apartment if anyone is interested:

We went all out this year and this one has it all, wifi internet - the works. Only downer is it's on the 5th floor and NO elevator - oh well, that's one way to work off the calories!

Last year we stayed in a fabulous studio at #4 Rue de Rivoli, right opposite St Paul metro. We'd have booked it again but our daughter will be joining us for Xmas/NY week and that apartment wasn't big enough for 3. The year before we stayed on Rue St Louis d'Ile right above the bakery - that was nice but too expensive and I just like the Marais a little more.

We may make a 2 day side trip to Amsterdam, otherwise we'll be there until the 14th.

What do you normally do for xmas eve/day? This is our first time being there for the holiday season and I'm not sure what's open and what's not. Don't really feel like cooking - was thinking of grabbing one of those rotisserie chickens and roast potatoes and some great hor d'hoerves/desserts/wine - whatever, we won't starve that's for sure.

I'm waiting for my French Sim Chip to arrive and then I'll have a cell phone # to give you. Maybe we could meet up for chocolate or somewthing stronger.

baked goods are too die for! Why are they so slim?! I know, it's a city of walkers!

12. And many of those

six and seven storey apartments don't have elevators! Ours is a 5th floor 'walk up' this year - we can only eat what we can carry up or eat it out.

It always ticks me off when little 70 yr old french ladies beat me up the stairs!

Where are the pictures and the descriptions of your wonderful trip? I was in Paris two years ago and will be there later this year, but like a junkie, I just need a fix before I return. What is it about this city??? :)

14. I've been waiting for it too. Check every few days.

I need it now more than ever. We had hoped to go to France this May but airfares, hotel rates, exchange rate and all kinds of things may put a damper on our plans.

16. I'm so sorry!!!

I've been meaning to get back here and post a trip report on October and the December trip.

And now we're going back again for our 20th anniversary.

As soon as I get some idea how to post pictures I'll put them up.

I've been writing the trip reports up for awhile. I just get distracted by other things.

18. We're going back November too

- we were there this past Dec-Jan and the weather was unseasonally dry and sunny. In fact Jan/Feb and the first half of Mar were 'warm' and sunny, but they had snow this week. For Nov I'm expecting rain, chill and mostly 'grey' days - but anything is possible.
