I've been doing background research for a vacation this summer with my 16-year-old daughter, and can't believe the air prices. She has expressed a desire to go to Greece or Russia, but I told her we can only do it if the cost is reasonable, and so far it isn't. We can go downscale once inside the country, but this year, the cost of getting there is the problem.
Summer air fares to almost all international destinations are at least $11-1200 plus taxes, making the total air fare over $2,500. Add to that the reduced purchasing power of the dollar and the total is going to be in the $5,000 range. That is just too much. I would really like to keep it to about $3,000.
The Czech Republic and Croatia might work. China is cheap and could be an option if a Chinese travel agent can provide better air prices. Travel to South America is like Europe except for Venezuela and Peru -- for some reason those countries are about half the cost of other destinations. She loves Canada but has been there a couple of times.
Just wondering if anyone else has thoughts or experiences. Is these any chance the situaion will change in the next six months?
