Could there be any more crap in my life?
I don't think so!

During chemo a week ago Monday, I had an anaphylactic reaction to the Carboplatin. I couldn't breathe and became unconscious. Of course the nurses and docs leaped into action and shot me up with antihistimines and steroids and I came out of it withing 10 or 15 minutes -- and seemed OK.

Not so.

During a big snowstorm last Sunday morning, I had a heart attack.

Luckily, even though this had never happened to me before, I recognized what it was. My daughter called 911 and the EMTs were there in a flash. They bundled me off to the hospital and although I really went downhill in the Emergency Dept., they managed to stabilze me for a trip to a specialty hospital where they had a Cardiac Catheterization unit. The CC docs were waiting for me, and I had an emergency angioplasty and stent placement.

The really, really good news is that -- since I was treated so quickly -- the cardiologist at the specialty hospital said that I had suffered NO permanent damage to my heart.

I feel pretty emotionally fragile now.

1. Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry.
When it rains it pours. Are you feeling physically better now?

I can only imagine how you must be feeling emotionally. I hope you can take some time over the holidays to rest and relax. In the meantime, I'm keeping you in my thoughts and sending good vibes.

2. Oh, no, how awful!
No wonder you feel fragile--it's hard not to when all that happens so quickly in such a short time.

Be gentle with yourself for the next couple of weeks. Anesthesia alone can give people depression, since it messes with the brain chemistry. Maybe some cuddle time with family and time in the comfy chair to recover would be a good idea.

3. Holy Crap!!! I hope you recover quickly from your heart attack...
Have you spoken w/ your oncologist about your situation? He may need to change your course of treatment.
Best wishes on a speedy recovery!!

What a horrible time you've had... very sorry you had to go through all that.

I hope the coming weeks bring a big turn-around for you, and that you get to feeling better fast.

5. Emotionally fragile is a very descriptive phrase.
I feel the same way. Thats great that they were able to treat you so quickly. How did you know it was a heart attack?

7. I don't want to sound flip, but ...
... if you ever have one -- you'll know.

Chest pain, jaw pain, suddenly feeling extremely unwell, and having a sense that Something Drastic Is Happening.

Thank you all for your kind words.
