Please excuse my uneducated question.
Friend of mine...
Unexplained anemia for 8 years. Blood transfusions required.
Clean colonoscopy 5 years ago.
Recent GI visit. Doctor felt a mass.
CT scan confirmed mass in colon and on liver.
Sigmoidoscopy performed.
Mass not seen in colon. Doctor determined it is resting on the OUTSIDE of the colon.
Liver biopsy in a few days to confirm suspected metastatic cancer which according to his "gut feel" is primary in the colon.
I'm looking for some hope here. I know that colon cancer very often spreads to the liver, but I am having a hard time believing this could happen due to the number of doctor's visits and tests this person has had over the past 8 years.
Can anyone offer any words of encouragement regarding the potential for benign masses under this scenario?
Thanks.

1. My dad had colon cancer |

with minimal spread to the lymph nodes. He had surgery and chemo and was cured. They can do a lot these days depending on the type of cancer and how fast they catch it. Until they do a cross section analysis of the tumor it is hard to know what the outcome will be as some cancers are more agressive than others.
