Has Anyone Here Ever Had Prostate Cancer?

I just found out my stepdad has it. 12 biopsies, most or all were positive. He is starting treatment.

1. My FIL had it and my uncle has it

My FIL has been clean for several years. My uncle got some heavier treatment and has some incontinence problems but has lived with it for ~5 years now.

2. How is he doing? My friend had the da Vinci prostatectomy

in November. He quickly recovered urinary continence, like in four days. He's having more difficulty with ED, but I keep reminding him he can't control nerves like he can muscles. He's using Viagra every other day and sexual stim. He's impatient, and I have to keep reminding him it will take time.
He beat the cancer, though, and it was an aggressive form.

3. Surgery one year ago today. Stage 3. So far, so good.

Had my first biopsy over 10 years prior, several after that, could not find anything. Then we did. Surgery got clear margins, but had to go a long long way to get them. Could have included a tonsilectomy.

Side effects have taken about twice as long to resolve as I had hoped. But it has still been a very good year, much to be thankful for.

My advice is to get treated at the best place you can. The cost isn't much different, but the care certainly is.
