Surgeries, Platelet counts, and Endoscopies, oh my!

This has turned into a six-month fiasco, and I still haven't been in for surgery.

We're shifting providers. Some major communication breakdown at the place where I was.

It is (hopefully still is!) Stage III cancer, but it just seems to be one thing after another. Every day another doctor in another place.

I think the main advantage of medicinal marijuana (illegal in this state) is that it mellows you out so you can just go with the flow. Unfortunately that's the one medication I don't have. I do have about 9 others.

That is a long time to wait. Hope things get straightened out soon and you can get in for your surgery.

2. Update

Following a PET scan (a totally mind-numbing procedure - at least with the MRI they played music) apparently it hasn't metastasized - that was my biggest worry. My new providers are being very proactive and moving this thing along. I meet with the surgeon on Monday, we'll know if he wants to go ahead and operate and, if so, when. So, things are looking positive.

4. I'm going to wuss out

And just order take-out.

The most I do nowadays is grilling. I love to cook, and I'm good at it (we know each other from C&B) but I really don't have the enthusiam to cook anymore.

On edit: I don't read any more, I don't play the piano anymore, I don'e write any more... Is this normal?

I love music, I love playing the piano, I love writing, but I just don't...

I just don't know any more...

6. I'd say you just have other things on your mind, understandably.

It's got to be almost impossible to just sit down and do something relaxing when your mind is thinking of more pressing matters. And it doesn't get much more pressing than cancer. I'd worry about a lack of interest in these things if it continues past your recovery, but for now I wouldn't let it get to you.

8. I understand how this weighs on your mind

Hell, I'm 20 months post surgery with clean scans and it still weighs on my mind, but you need to do the things that bring you pleasure. While your cancer is now a part of who you are don't let it be the be all and end all of who you are. You're still here and still alive, enjoy it. Not sure how your weather is going to be but fire up the grill this weekend and fix your favorite.

7. I broke my index finger a couple of years ago.....

....and I asked the Doc if I'd be able to play the piano. He told me the finger would be just fine, and yes I would still be able to play the piano. I told him that was great because I never could before!

My wife had breast cancer six years ago. Like you, we caught it before it went systemic. She had a mastectomy and has been cancer free for six years! I hope you have the same results! Good luck.

9. It's set for May 11th

And platelets are up to a respectable 117,000.

And it's 80 degrees out and I fired up the MG convertible and spent the afternoon on the road.

10. I had two MGs.

First one was an MGA. A red convertible that was a bear to start, had no heat and smoked like a chimney --- but I loved it.

Second one was a brand new, baby blue MGB. Cost $3,000 if I remember correctly. I had a boyfriend at the time who impressed me by shifting without using the clutch (he was a part-time race car driver).

Then I got married, and while I was in the hospital delivering my second child, my asshole (ex)husband SOLD my pretty MGB without even asking or telling me. The jerk.

11. Oooh... an MGA

I'd LOVE to have an MGA, preferably a white one.

Don't know about shifting gears without the clutch - the clutch is there to protect the mechanism. Of course, if you tear down your car and rebuild it between races, that wouldn't matter, but I wouldn't allow that to happen to my car.

Your asshole ex sold your MGB while you were giving birth?? That's reason to divorce right there.

Yeah, I'm happy to have movement in this department. Be nice to get on to the next phase.

"Having movement" is a poor choice of words, given that it's colorectal cancer.
