Hair.

I hate to post about such a small problem, but here goes:

My hair started to regrow at the beginning of February. It's now about 3 inches long ----

---- and it's completely out of control.

I say that it's more like fur, than hair. Nothing I do, and I mean nothing --- no conditioners, no gels, no anti-frizz creams -- do anything to make it manageable.

Pleeeze tell me that eventually, things will get back to normal.

I'm fed up with looking like I belong in the circus.

Not being insensitive, I've just been there. When mine came back in, it was *really* curly, much to my father's amusement. It went back to the normal straight pretty quickly.

2. Not small at all!

I had my last chemo Jan. 19 and just had my first tiny, tiny haircut about 2 weeks ago. All my life I've had thick straight hair; now I have thick ultra curly hair about the same length as yours. Until I got about an inch mine was exactly as you describe-fur. To top it off it came in absolutely white around the hairline and way over 50% grey the rest. I look like a skunk!

3. Work with your hairdresser

See if they can recommend a cut and some styling products. It was totally foreign to me, too. I had always had very straight, fine dark blonde hair. It grew back curly and dark w/ lots of gray.

I recall finally getting some response using Frizz Ease products, but they never made it straight, just took the fuzziness out.

In about 6 or 7 months it will start looking more like your own hair again.

4. Almost 4 Years - Still Frizzy

I used to have thick, wavy, glossy hair. Now - ugh!

It came in curly at first, it was sort of cute (even though I've always preferred long hair). But when it stopped coming in curly, I noticed it would frizz very badly. I live in Florida - so the humidity does it no favors, but even on dry days - fly away hair. I've tried a lot of different products, and nothing seems to provide that magic fix. I suppose if I really took the time to blow it dry and use an iron it would look good, but I prefer to be a wash and go kind of gal. It used to not be a problem.


Anyway - regarding worrying about hair -
I cried when I lost it. Throughout my treatment, I had a recurring nightmare. In the dream, I would wake up to a full head of hair, start to brush it, only to have it all fall out again. My mother said I was worried about my cancer recurring.

5. It's better now.

The "fur" look has mostly gone away, now that I've grown more hair.

I can blow-dry now and if there is some flyaway, I use a dab of L'Oreal Anti-Frizz Cream.

I DO notice that it is growing in unevenly. The back part is on a growth rampage, but the top and front are molasses-slow (and --- worryingly --- thin).

6. Excellent

It does improve with time. And if you are a estogen receptor negative breast cancer survivor, the baldness is well worth the trade off for a longer life.

7. Hi Tracer - Aveda Control Paste has worked for friends of mine in the

same boat. You can usually find it at most good hair salons. And their products are mostly natural ingredients.
