has open captioning on some screens I guess I will have to wait until it come out on DVD.
I can't for the life of me remember the name of this one movie I saw. It was about a DJ, he was famous (in the movie, I don't think it was based on a true story), a druggie, rich, etc. He ends up going deaf. It reminded me of the process I went through. His friends and family basically leave him, not wanting to trouble themselves with trying to communicate (though this wasn't too much of a problem, many in my family are deaf/hoh). He gets depressed and become a hermit (which I did). He finally ventures out, meets a deaf sign language/Lip reading instructor (it was set in Spain, so it wasn't ASL). He finds his world isn't over, music can still be a part of his life. He is getting a famous, so his friends come out of the wood work, still acting like assholes though. Finally he just disappears with his deaf teacher and he becomes a wonderful person, one he wouldn't have been without becoming deaf. It's kind of a ridiculous movie, tries to be funny. In the beginning of it, I was sooo offended, but by the end I understood and was crying, even though I don't think it was made to make one cry.
That's how I feel about my deafness. I miss a lot of things, but love the person I am now. It's sad that it took becoming deaf to open my eyes, but that's just the truth. I don't think I would like the person I would have been had I not gone deaf.
