my friends who joined now regret it.
remind him that the service is a job, but unlike a regular job, it is a job which you cannot quit, talk back, or believe as you wish.
In that it is more like selling yourself to the government for a time.
and even though they say you can choose from so many jobs...their aptitude tests and other placement testing will possibly interfere with that...
As it did for a friend of mine who is now in Iraq for the 2nd time (would be third but he had a friend hit his knee with a bat in order to not be redeployed so that he could witness the birth of his first son) and he was told he could choose from over 250+ jobs. After he was officially owned by them (Marines) he was told that, "uh, son, you are colorblind." Turns out he cannot see red properly so out went his firefighter style job he wanted and lo and behold they made him a construction worker. Now he is building the huge installations that will help sustain our perpetual war in the middle east.
He didn't want any part of what he ended up with, but he is still serving like a good patriot, without complaining too much.
Another friend of mine joined and they made him an MP. Sit in this checkpoint all day, no reading or writing or anything but sitting, while maybe 1 or 2 people pass through each day. That sounds riveting.
Some people like it, and good for them, what they are doing is commendable.
If you cannot stand orders and feel comfortable with the socialization (they break you down to build you up as one of them) you have received, do not join, or you will regret it. plain and simple.
