On this night when the good cold of winter has finally set in, I saw that 21 Americans
died in Iraq today.

The right wing spouts and sputters about the 60s as if it was an illness this country
went through but out of that time came some real beauty and art which in a large
part was tempered by the fire that was Vietnam. And not unlike Vietnam, Iraq is
also an unneeded war which sooner or later we will have to leave and "our enemy"
knows this and in the end "he" will be the winner of this blood bath even though "he"
will lose every battle to us.

The 21 dead has hit me like a ton of bricks because in August after 5th grade
in 1969 I saw a marine corps car parked in front of my friends house with an officer
in "Dress Blues" and an Episcopal priest coming out of the home. To this day I can tell
you where everybody was and what they were wearing and the words, "Bruce your brother
is dead." is still with me.

God Damn this useless ass war and the people who started it and our lazy media
for not reporting the fact that Saddam had nothing to do w/ 9-11.

1. Your words just took me back to that same day

only a different time a different place ...the same shiver down my spine. I'm sorry for you loss and know it to have changed your life and those around you forever... as it will for the families of those lost today. This evil has bubbled back up to the surface in this country but for some countries it has never gone away. That's the only optimistic perspective I can find ..fuck.
