An excerpt:

I don't think we've ever had a coherent strategy. In fact, I would even challenge the administration today to show us the plan that the president talked about the other night. There is no plan. I happen to know that Pentagon planners were on their way to Central Com over the weekend -- they haven't even Team B'ed this plan.... There is no strategy. This is a ping-pong game with American lives.... We'd better be damned sure what we're doing, all of us, before we put 22,000 more lives into that grinder.... and I want every one of you, every one of us, 100 senators to look in that camera, and you tell your people back home what you think. Don't hide any more, none of us."[/i}

2. Has the White House labeled Chuck Hagel as a traitor yet?
...The sane republicans are beginning to overcome their fears and are opening up to the public record that they know Bush/Cheney have been dead wrong on the Iraq War. Hagel knows there is no plan and never has been a plan for Iraq, just mindless killing and oligarchical conquest by the neocons who have stolen our government.

3. Beware politicians who claim that they don't care about politics.
The first rule of the game of politics: Deny that you're playing any game at all.

Mr. Hagel, Bush is no more sincere than you are. Saying that this is just a disagreement between honest folk is just leaving the murderer in charge while you grab face points for making principled rhetoric on CSPAN.

When you get behind an impeachment resolution, or legislation to defund the Iraq War, you'll be worth taking seriously.

5. I do agree with your last point
but neither of those things will ever happen if Republicans don't break ranks.

Hagel has been speaking out against the war for some time. I understand that his voting record is very conservative. But I fail to understand why we should be as suspicious of his motivations, as say, some of our candidates who never served in the military (much less in Vietnam) and seem to hedge their positions on the war based on the current poll numbers. That does not make sense.
