1. the company prayed
and then hooted and didn't stop the brutality, and seemed only concerned that it was filmed. This was quite chilling.

3. I bailed out after I finally got to see the title..
Why don't you give a little clue as to what you are raving about anyway? It's a courtesy to at least describe what you are recommending, particularly when linking to a video.

This one looks like it is probably graphic and disgusting, so thanks, i'll pass.

First time on the internets?

9. Well, even if you clicked it on, the newscaster talks for
quite some time before the video plays, so I don't know what
you are complaining about.

12. Can you read?
I'll repeat it:

It's a courtesy to at least describe what you are recommending, particularly when linking to a video.

Some folks (not me)are still on dial-up. They probably use a lot of descretion in choosing a link to a video, because it takes forever to download. In general, it makes a lot of sense to include at least a brief clue as to what you are directing people to on the web. (A common internet courtesy, if you will.)

Does that clear it up for you?

Sorry to be a grouch, but jeez.....get a clue!

16. Thanks. As a dial-up person you expressed my feelings exactly.
And seeing how there is STILL no description of what this is, I'll pass.

27. I'm also a dialup person
so a synopsis of videos is always appreciated.

There's no way I can watch a nine-minute video--a minute is about my limit, and that's only since I learned that you can pause YouTube and wait while it downloads (no way can I stream).

5. the man beaten down was caught with mortar rounds
not exactly a Rodney King moment. In a real war, I wouldn't be too fazed by this. Of course, we are not in a real war. Our soldiers are policeman, patrolling the streets during someone else's civil war. They are policemen and held to the moral standards of policemen. I do not know how any man or woman can do what our soldiers do and remain sane, compassionate, moral....or even human. It numbs the mind.

I think we're retraining the Iraqi Taliban too.

We are out of our element in Iraq. We have lost. We are lost.

For those who think it is no big deal, I think the overall fear level and lack of security for all the citizens is what is so distressing.

22. The BBC offers the viewers several different slices of the situation
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 12:13 AM by truedelphi
In Hell On Earth, Iraq

One scene depicts the Shi'ia militia beating up a Sunni who was found with mortar rounds in his car

American servicemen have mixed reaction - the guys in the HumVee where the vid is centered
seem to express joy at the beating - an American voice from a soldier somewhere else over a radio says he is trying to get the beating to stop

BBC announcer points out the real significance - American troops are "training the Iraqi troops" and if they allow this Geneva code breaking behavior - it means that that is the lesson that the Iraqis
will come away with

Other scenes include a man who has received a death threat - he and his wife will have their tongues cut out and then will be killed unless they leave their home (ethnic cleansing means that just as the Germans got the Jewish homes when Jewish people left, so too do the Shi'ia get the Sunni homes in the newly designated "shi'ia"neighborhoods and vice a versa.)

And footage of injured people who are the victims of gunfire being treated in a hospital that has little medicine and almost no anaesthetic.

You come away realizing that Bush and company totally F%^Ked these people - if Bush ad listened to the generals and given the initial invasion effort enough people on the ground, there would not be this blood bath today.

Under Saddam, the various groups got along and even inter-married. Before the war, there were more Christians in Baghdad than any other spot in the Middle East.

when our troops in the field have no clear direction. Did they have the authority to intervene in the beating? Can our soldiers command Iraqi units?

26. Really a good point.
When you are in a war without direction or reason and being fired on from all sides discipline will break down.

It seems like one of the sacrifices our soldiers are making is their own humanity and it's something we'll all have to live with for a long time.

30. Why is this not on the daily news?
It clearly shows what our troops are dealing with. Who are our enemies? This is a civil war, how are we to choose sides? If we have chosen sides, then which side?

Then bush come off with this crazy babble about Iranian Agents he assumes are in Iraq that we are to seek, arrest or shoot. Do these Iranians have arm bands on or labels letting the troops know who they are? Sheesh, the insanity of it all.

We have got to back our troops out of the Cities at least, and let the Iraqis do what they are doing and going to do anyway.

And HERE, CBS wouldn't even run Lara's (by comparison) much milder video report.

That we are both the root cause of the Violence in Iraq, and pretty much the only legal structure as well.

On edit: meaning that our presence in Iraq is auto-catalytic, it reinforces itself by perpetuating the violence in Iraq.

37. Watched again this a.m. and the anger is rising, again
We have opinions, but, have we been there and done that? No, how can we judge our troops? We sit here in our comfy chairs and judge, what do we really know except that this bashing of Iraq is not the answer. Our troops are doing as they are told. They are taught not to think but they "do think", they see this shit every day, we don't. They feel it every day. They have got to wonder what the hell is this all about when they are not seeing progress. They must wonder who are the brains in this senseless operation.

My heart is so with those troops. Of course there are a few bad apples. Most appear to be young and in awe of the whole situation. That includes the opinions of those coming back and talking to their families and state that this is a cluster fuck.

38. That whole thing was hard to watch.
Those troops just watching that beating sicken me. It's like listening to a group of blood thirsty 15-year-olds watching catfights on YouTube and laughing about it. But in reality, these men are given guns. I know the majority of troops are good people, but it sickens me to think about the bad apples being sent over there. I saw a story about gangs having members over in Iraq fighting for America. And of course the images from Fahrenheit 9/11 of the troops talking about listening to "let the bodies hit the floor" and the group of troops making fun of the dead Iraqi's body.

This video is very disturbing...

I just hope we can bring these men and women home without doing any damage to them.
