2. Winning hearts and minds......
one bump at a time. The Iraqis like being shoved and pushed around on their own streets. The driver doesn't give a fuck. Those pedestrians will get out of the way safely. Besides, they're not american children so fuck it, full speed ahead. :sarcasm:

Man this video pisses me off!

Whatever mission they're on was not planned carefully to avoid this traffic situation. The arrogance of power is what will haunt this country for a long time.

If I were an Iraqi man in one of those vehicles, I might express some serious road rage at some point in the future.

3. So, are they going to bring these
driving skills home with them? That film is really abhorrent.

6. "Targeting" civilian vehicles is hardly the solution
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 11:07 PM by rocknation
especially when you're trying to convince them that you're on their side. Someone might get pissed enough to put a bomb in the trunk.

If US vehicles need to get around that badly, seal off secure roads or stop traffic altogether.

5. Ever heard of sirens, guys?
You get the same results without pissing off the people you're trying to liberate!

13. Hence the horn you hear beeping over and over again.
"Piss off" Iraqis by bumping the back of their vehicles...... OR get caught in traffic snarl and become a huge friggin target.

Which would you choose? If you choose the first option, you put your life and the lives of many other soldiers and Iraqis in jeopardy.

But we REALLY support the troops here at DU...

14. I saw this video yesterday and I just KNEW it would end up on here
with a bunch of idiotic comments from ignorant people who have no idea what they're talking about.

Convoys are being attacked everyday. They need to keep their speed up to survive. What they were doing was probably saving the lives of both Americans AND Iraqis. They caused no significant damage to any of the cars they tapped, and it is unlikely anyone was injured.

And yet people here label them as "assholes." Nice guys, real nice. Support the troops huh? Bullshit.

15. Agreed, for the most part...
However, I will say this every situation has nuance and the driver showed no concern for that. I mean you saw a kid running crossing the street and there was no hint he even tried to slow down. I understand trying to protect yourself and not allowing yourself to be caught up in traffic and becoming a sitting duck, but at the same time their concern isnt' supposed to be just for themselves. They are there to protect lives and to just zoom through traffic, jumping the medians driving on the wrong side of the road and barrelling on while pedestrians try to walk is wrong.

Say what you will but I promise showing disregard for the lives of those simply walking the street didn't come from a desire to save Iraqi lives. Some discipline should be given out for this incident.

16. So agree with you India3, keep moving or be killed
If you don't laugh you cry, the insanity of it all. Where are our great leaders? Does this whole scene not tell volumns? We need to back out of the city streets and keep a vigil close by. Of course we are making enemies every day there with this kind of "stratergery".

Our troops are playing, "follow the leader". They don't dare think for themselves. These are the rules they were given, no matter how insane. Oh gees, I worry so for the grunts, hell, even the officers are out there with no say about the "stratergery". I have noticed that many officers are on the death toll list. bush has no favorites.

10. Lets support the troops here, I don't think we can judge them, based on the fact that
we don't understand the security concerns over there.

12. Our FRiends appear to be SHOCKED! SHOCKED! that such a thing would happen...
I like they way they bump them to get them out of the way. It's far more gentle than they have to be about it.

Wow. Talk about balls. I did notice that many of the Iraqi motorists understand the drill, and get out of the way as fast as they can like they have done it before.

Hey, that would be fun at rush hour.

17. I have to admit...
that they were being a bit aggressive...it's bound to piss someone of and do something to them...but on the other hand...they are being targeted...so I can see why they would be driving fast and not wanting to get stuck in sitting traffic...

18. Not trying to be funny, but ...
that's about the way Hummer owners drive here in Dallas. They bully other drivers, expecting them to get out of their way. And, if you don't they're ready to run you over.
