I live in GA and come from the north. I've always noticed that for some odd reason many southerners are proud to be dumb. I have never understood that. Bush repeating that is really the height of arrogance.

9. There is a difference between being stupid and being ignorant...

Stupidity is the inability to learn. ignorance is refusing to learn what you can.

In bush's case, uniquely, the two forces come together to create arrogance, which is a cardinal sign of ignorance...when you add virtually unlimited power to the equation, the consequences can be, well are, in this case), catastrophic.

But I've always held that ignorance is simply the lack of knowledge, whereas stupidity seems to be the deliberate choice to remain in ignorance. Either? Or?

12. Ignorance is a lack of information, we all possess it in many ways...

How many of us can actually understand nuclear physics or the Theory of Relativity?

The difference is, a stupid person cannot even begin to comprehend complexities, or in many cases, simplicities; whereas an ignorant person can remain ignorant or can learn something about what they desire to learn about. It is the, "I don't want to know" crowd that can be very frightening; while the "I'll look into that" crowd is the most comforting.

In the case of bush, we have a combination of both aspects, not only is he ignorant, he wishes to remain so. Stupidity is acceptable, ignorance rarely is, particularly when it is self imposed.
