1. Here is a clip of Cenk explaining his change of heart from the 2007 YearlyKos convention (Netroots)

2. One thing I fault Cenk on:
He talks like the present insanity is an aberration. IT ISN'T. The Republicans didn't just "go nuts" five years ago. The GOP policies of today are the culmination of the same policies they've ALWAYS favored.

3. I agree. But credit him for coming a very, very long way and
becoming one of the strongest progressive voices out there.

He's not right on every issue but it's still impressive and rare. Usually people who are wrong stay wrong, even after you explain why with facts, logic and reason.

5. I am severely hearing impaired, so I can't listen to this.
But the comments here make me wonder: Was Cenk once a Republican? Did he vote for W in 2000 or something?

6. NO. He voted against Clinton twice as he explained at the 2007 YearlyKos, but for Gore in 2000
2000 was a big turning point for him because despite being a moderate Republican, he watched Bush at the debates and realized he hated his foreign policy and that the man was incredibly dumb.

He has never voted R since, and has become more and more progressive over time. Again, I give him great credit for that, and I use him as an example to right of center people. You know, like if I share a TYT article or video with them and try and dismiss it as liberal bias.

15. I agree, but...
since the Christian fundamentalist, religious right, or whatever you choose to call them became so influential, they have become REALLY NUTS. I don't believe in Heaven and Hell, but if they do exist (they don't), I bet Hell is wall to wall with with people saying "why am I here, I'm a Christian?"

17. Again, thats nothing new.
The neocons and their psycho-religious toadys have been overly influential in the GOP hierarchy for 30 yrs. How do you think Reagan got in? If you were voting for Republicans at any time during the 70s, 80s, or 90s - THE BUSH REGIME IS WHAT YOU WERE VOTING FOR!

19. Eh, I disagree
They may have generically had influence but the dramatic increase in abstinence only funding and the banning of federal funding of stem cell research is a real double whammy.

And the trampling of the 4th amendment, and the lies to take us into a conflict of THIS scale. The scale of the conflict is relevant.

24. True. The GOP have been festering for decades,
but it's hard not to see the W. Administration as an egregious exaggeration of previous republican politicians. This administration is extremely bad and extremely insane. At W's dad had a little respect for the constitution.

10. Here is an example of a Reagan Republican who will be voting with us this fall.
Obama isn't changing his message to get these voters, he's showing them who really represents their interests!

16. So the Rs weren't "nuts" before 2003? And I thought this guy had some intelligence...
Quoting Reagan as a good example, then condemning terror? What does Cenk think went on under Reagan in El Salvador and Honduras? (Under all the presidents, by the way.)

;)

It's a youtube clip (a very, very short one at that), the entire segment gives more context. You should know better.

20. Don't give me this crap about 'context'. He said what he said. And it was stupid.
He said Republicans only got 'nuts' after 2003 and he was a Republican before. Now THAT'S nuts!

21. As a wise man would say "relax, you're at a 10 and you need to be at a 2"
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 07:29 PM by ihavenobias
If you listen to his show regularly you know he's referring to Iraq and the more recent trampling of civil liberties.

I think Reagan was a HORRIBLE president, and have written quite a bit on that topic. But I think this current crop of Republicans is worse, and there's nothing "nuts" about it.

22. I have seen almost all the TYT video's here, so don't give me that crap either.
"I think Reagan was a HORRIBLE president"

Well, that says it all, doesn't it? Quoting Reagan as a positive thing, and pretending torture started with George W. Bush makes Cenk look very stupid and very ignorant.

23. (yawn)
Your gross mischaracterization (and pretending that watching 15 minutes a day of youtube clips from a 3 a day hour show) makes you look, well, you know.

Especially considering that even if you disagree with Cenk here, he's said so many other things you DO agree with.

:)
