Today, the Arizona State Board of Education met to decide officially whether to take over control of the Roosevelt School District. Tom Horne (R), the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, urged for a vote to relieve the democratically elected school board of its local authority to guide the District. Horne advocated for the Arizona State Department of Education to step in and manage the Roosevelt school District directly. However, after reviewing the recent AIMS results, it became clear that the Roosevelt school District has shown tremendous improvement under its own local control, and doesn't need the State's direct guidance at this time.
