1. These cops should be conscripted into the military and...
sent to Iraq if they like to play "military dress-up". Establishment Mules! :puke:

At Port of Tacoma!

STRYKER PROTEST -- NEWS: Democracy Now! reports on Port of Tacoma Stryker protest
Written by Mark Jensen
Saturday, 10 March 2007

Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! ended her Friday broadcast by conducting, with Juan Gonzalez, an interview in Tacoma, WA, with Wally Cuddeford, who has been arrested twice this week in antiwar protests against the shipment of Stryker vehicles through the Port of Tacoma to Iraq, and who has been the victim of police violence. -- Cuddeford described both of his arrests. -- Of the first incident, he said: "I was standing in the crowd of protesters, and the police grabbed me and threw me down on the gravel, rubbed my face in the gravel, causing wounds I still have on my face. While being under a pile of about four police officers, they began applying their taser to me in my back ordering me to put my arms behind my back. My arms were pinned under my own body. I could not move them. They tasered me three times while I was down on the ground and then dragged me across the pavement and charged me with third-degree assault." -- Of his experience at the Tacoma City Council meeting Tues. evening, he said: "I was ejected from the Tacoma City Council meeting and arrested the following night for trying to tell them what had happened to me, and they didn't seem to care. And a lot of the news coverage has been like 'Unidentified protester arrested at Tacoma City Council meeting,' even though I gave my name five times." -- (Cuddeford has yet to be named in print by the News Tribune .) ...

More bass ackwards homeland port security.
100% of back packs already in the U.S. get confiscated, but less than 10% of incoming international cargo ships don't get checked.

3. That made me cry too.
I wish they had resisted more and made those cops work in that massive body armor. How dare they.

Have you all seen the pictures of the massive protests that happened recently in Australia or ones in S. America or Europe? They NEVER face their own citizens which such overwhleming military preparations!

Why are our police forces armed this heavily!? Tacoma!? Why are they SO prepared to beat down us citizens? Why do they have so much money and funding as our public schools fall further, our children become less educated compared to the rest of the world and our ranks of uninsured grow massively. The gap between rich and poor spreads wider and we watch our country broken apart and sold to other countries... yet the police are as well-equipped as you want... Go figure.

We need protests on a massive scale and even if I do sympathize with police as individuals, they need to stop "following orders" so damn much or be fucking prepared when the shit goes down all right. Man am I pissed!

Those were beautiful people.

6. yeah, our cops are creepy
Tacoma cops as a rule are supercreeps - filthy, dirty assholes. But what part of "no backpacks, no purses" don't people understand? Every goddamned concert I've ever gone to has the same basic rules, and you don't see people becoming martyrs for giving up their purses at the concert gate, do you? Both Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell have pushed for tighter port security, and for a good reason. I have had to get practically patted down to enter security areas when I'm not protesting, so this doesn't surprise me all that much.

The saddest part of this is the Tacoma and King County police automatically go into complete asshole mode whenever their power gets upped even a smidgen. What better reason than an anti-war protest to go into full-on SWAT mode? The only thing they enjoy more is busting down doors to confiscate marijuana, or shooting some wandering bear to death, and getting their faces on television like they're goodamned saviours of humanity. If they weren't in uniform they'd simply be referred to as thugs. The badge is what makes the difference, and the rest of us don't amount to jack shit in the eyes of Johnny Law. It gets old pretty fast, but that's Tacoma for you.

7. "what part of "no backpacks, no purses" don't people understand?"
Maybe they don't understand the unconsitutionality part of not being allowed to carry bags in a public place?

Freedom of assembly is the freedom to associate with, or organize any groups, gatherings, clubs, or organizations that one wishes. It is held to be a key right in liberal democracies, whereby citizens may form or join any political party, special interest group, or union without government restrictions. In legal systems without freedom of assembly, certain political parties or groups can be banned with harsh penalties for any members. Public protests against the government are usually banned as well.
