5. Good yes, not great I wrote...I've seen a few "New Rules" that were absolutely great,
perfectly written with excellent politically and socially astute & accurate obsevations and insight as well as also being mind-blowingly funny....This one, again, was I agree with you..."good".

10. "I mail a copy of the Constitution to myself every morning.,,"
I loved his monologue on HBO Sat. night about the administration violating everyone's civil rights. Maher said he mails a copy of the Constitution to himself everyday just in the hope that the Feds will open it up and read it for once.

He said they've taken away most of the Bill of Rights, including a truly free press, freedom of assembly to protest, trail by jury, habeous corpus, etc. He said they've left us handguns, religion and not having to house British soldiers.

4. Eh. Wish he could get me stirred up inside the way Olbermann does.
I've seen Maher do some intense "New Rules" and this one is ok.

6. "When mediocre people do nothing".....
News flash Bill....the myth that the Democrats control Congress is just that, A MYTH! Apparently Bill has forgotten about Joe LIEberman, who, although he says he'll caucus with the Democrats, has become a permanent fixture in the rectum of George W. Bush. And, we're another Senator down. Tim Johnson, although continuing to improve, is not yet able to do the work he was elected to do. So, Mr. Maher, where exactly IS this majority that is supposed to stop the Bushistas? When you answer that question, Mr. Maher, then I'll take what you say seriously. Until then, put a cork in it. The Democrats are as unable to stop the Bushistas now as they ever were. :grr: Give us a little time for cryin' out loud.

7. there are republ;icans that would like to continue their political career
they will be the ones that side with the opposition. Believe it or not some Republicans can't stand Bushp either. They are more likely to turn on him to save their own party than Ho' Lieberman.

When Bush is cut down it will be by a republican chainsaw.

I think it will be sooner than anybody expects. Least of all Bush, Cheney and Rove.

8. Don't think so, Baldyman, not on the big stuff like impeachment
They figure if they act as an effective oppoistion (And to be fair, they've not done a bad job in that endeavor), the American people will suffer collective memory loss and give them back the Congress in 08

9. I disagree, Rep support for Bush can only fall, this will have a knock on effect
in elections. Who have they fielded or are likely to field that isn't more of the same.

Don't forget the US voted for a Democratic President in the last two elections, even republicans are beginning to find that out and it must rankle on their sense of fair play and decency. I can't see the Rep. party getting extra support in '08 from anywhere unless they muck in and help with house cleaning.

The war in Iraq is the only card the RW can play, what can they say - you don't support troops as much as we do? The Army is exhausted and close to collapse. No one in the military is willing to say that but if the US doesn't withdraw from Iraq soon there will be a Vietnam style 'fall of Baghdad' in a couple of years. The US army nearly fell apart in Vietnam and took years to rebuild. A similar situation has happened in Iraq for different reasons, frequent tours in combat zones endlessly extended and every member stop-lossed at the end of their enlistment term. you can't keep an effective force in the field in those conditions.

Britain found that out in NI, tours were reduced from a year to six months and eventually reduced to 6 week - 3 month stints to maintain operational effectiveness.

The US armed forces can be withdrawn in good order now but leave it until '08 or later it will be a disaster. Dropping standards for recruits won't help. They need to withdraw, refit and regroup.
