3. ya know, I went to several demonstrations in DC in the early 70s that were . . .

much, much larger than this one, and I don't recall ever seeing a cop in riot gear (much less a whole line of them) or mounted patrols or dogs or specialized vehicles for "crowd control" . . . the cops I saw were in groups of three or four every so often along the march route, in their everyday uniforms and no riot weapons, shields, clubs, or cans of mace (if it was even invented at that time) . . . in fact, when we passed them, we made sure to start chanting "More pay for police!" and more often than not we elicited smiles and thumbs up . . .

things sure have changed in this country . . . it's almost like exercising your free speech is a crime, and just looking sideways could get you grabbed, beaten, and arrested . . .

this is not the America I grew up in -- not by a long shot . . . if we're not a fascist state yet, we're well on our way to becoming one . . .
