Remember they only say 200,000 the real number is 250,000. 3500 from our current war zones. 15,000 Veterans Families who have lost everything. This is the Shame Of the Bush and Company

2. U.S. vets are used and abused
Especially if they are the victims of an unpopular war. This administration is trying to wrap them in the flag and then sweep them under the rug.

3. Yes They Are it took ten years for them to do a dam thing for us Nam Vets
DU I know your hearts are breaking just like mine. There are shelters around the Country set up by Vets. I know two Vets here who are doing just that. We set up one here. http://www.helpaveteran.org It only hold a few vets. And we had to fight Replugs to do it. DuPage County in IL is so red I think they shit Red.

4. I will never get over the Vietnam fiasco
Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 12:40 AM by Erika
Now they've added the Iraq fiasco.

It is the vets and their families who pay the price.

I saw the Vietnam wall for the first time this year in D.C. The tiny inscribed names on this huge wall was enough to make even the hardened cry.

9. I wonder if the VA opened all its hospital beds that are unused if
that would not help the problem. Although after seeing what Walter Reed looks like they may be better on the street.

Part of the problem with homelessness is that the original forms of care have been abandoned. For the Vets they have closed VA hospitals and ended care way too soon. For the mentally ill they have closed institutional care without developing community based care. And the rest of the homeless are often parents who can only get low-income jobs and have lost their homes because there is not enough money. This problem is staggering in its implications for our communities.
